  General Notes:

Calvin Warby notes:
interred in Anglican, military 1793 - 1814 Napoleonic Wars, occupation Farm Labourer, immigrated 27 Sep 1839 in 'Neptune' - Sydney NSW AUS.45 Through family circles the story is told of James having a big war medal, and this appears to be backed up by his death certificate which states that he was a soldier in the Imperial Army. Also the fact that he was married at Hythe KENT ENG which was a garrison town at the time of his marriage. James, with his wife and five children came to Australia as bounty emigrants per 'NEPTUNE' departing Gravesend ENG 1st June 1839 and arriving Port Jackson NSW on the 27th September 1839, thence to Morpeth and Maitland NSW AUS.

Further information supplied "My mother's maiden name was Warby and she lived in the Morpeth area as a child. Her name was Elizabeth Anne Warby. Her father was Charles Laurence Maitland Warby known as Charlie and his wife Joyce Lill. My mother was one of 11 or so children. Her family has in its possession a Military General Service medal awarded to James Warby for service in the 43 foot battalion. This was awarded to soldiers who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. It has a picture of Queen Victoria placing a laurel wreath on the Duke of Wellington . The other side has the Queen on it. It was awarded in 1848". We now have a picture of this medal as shown on this sheet. We have also found out this medal was not sanctioned till 1847 and awarded the following year.
