Reg was an inveterate gambler & an alcoholic. His father Louie Lewis was Jewish.
Fought in WW1,gassed, shot, blown-up at the Somme - convalesced in Uk where he met Irene, married in 1919, then returned to NZ.
Regimental No 32199. Rank - Rifleman.
Reg was senile when he died in Sydney.

Reg was the fastest talking, most humerous bloke. He was irrepressible. You couldn't keep him down. He had a newspaper stand on the corner of Elizabeth & Bathurst Streets in Sydney & was always on the look out to make a fast buck. He used to buy pencils for a penny, cut them in half, sharpen them each end & sell them for sixpence each at Rosehill Racecourse, just out of Sydney.

Reginald married Irene (Rene) Rhoda Tilke, daughter of Samuel Tilke and Emily Jane Glover, on 9 Jul 1919 in Somerset, Somersetshire England. (Irene (Rene) Rhoda Tilke was born on 4 Nov 1895 in Clutton, Chilcompton, Somerset England, christened on 22 Dec 1895 and died in 1982 in Sydney, NSW Australia.)
