In 1851 Elizabeth was a servant to Elizabeth Bellamy, governess and cousin of Joseph Hand Surgeon at 24 Duke Street, Westminster, London. In 1871 she is at 22 Leadbury Street Camberwell with her husband.

The 1881 British census records Elizabeth as a 48 y.o. widowed head of house, also living with her are her mother, and four of her children at Ledbury Street, Camberwell Surrey.

In 1901 she was working as a nurse (sick).
