Joseph Carl (Carl) Svanberg
- Born: Cir 1885, NSW Australia
- Marriage (1): Vera Dare
Research Notes:
Zoe Cochrane notes: Maurice, known to all his friends and family as "Jeff" was born in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia and he moved to Western Australia in the mid 1890's, he was an engine driver and worked for the Railways. All of Maurice's family lived in New South Wales, mostly in the Southern Highlands and some had moved to Sydney. One of his half brothers Carl Svanberg moved to Western Australia around the same time, and he worked for the Railways for many years, so Maurice must have lined up a job for Carl who ended up staying in Perth, marrying here and having three children. Maurice married Florence Jessop in 1897 in Fremantle, Western Australia and they had two children, Roy and Ivy. He also adopted his niece Rose Jeffery when she was 11 as her mother Beatrice had died and her father Zachariah who was the brother of Maurice, was unable to look after some of the younger children. My grandmother Rose said Maurice was very kind, and my uncle Geoff fondly remembers meeting up with him in Perth where his great uncle bought him a train set, which all young boys would cherish. His son Roy was deaf and he started up the first school in Mt Lawley for the Deaf community. Jeff died in 1945 and is buried at Karrakatta.
