'William Bealby Hackett owned a Funeral Emporium at the Elelphant & Castle. He was wealthy and able to retire in his late 40's. He and his wife (Sarah Tilke) attended Spurgeons Tabernacle at the Elephant & Castle having put a lot of money into it. For their Diamond wedding anniversary they were presented with a set of chairs. Their sons were Samuel Tilke, William & George Clayton (Victoria Hacketts Grandfather). George was profoundly deaf but a lithographic draftsman & I have the special gift that he gave them - a large framed set of verses about the couple' Source = Victoria Hackett 29/6/05
Ann Hackett notes: I have never found any information about William Bealby Hackett being an undertaker, only a linen draper. Although I guess he may have supplied fabrics to the funeral trade. I'd be really interested to know anything further about the undertaker reference.
