Edward emigrated to Sydney, Australia on 1st September 1839 on the Cornwall with his wife and young son Edward and his brothers Caleb, Phillip, William and Thomas.
Edward senior was listed as a farm labourer brought out by James Hope, Botany Bay. (Ros Taylor - ships records)
Living at Marshall Mount at time of James (son) birth 1843.
Edward listed as labourer on Baptism record for James.

Occupation farmer.
Settled in Calderwood Road district of Marshall Mount. Was a highly respected resident as described in his orbituary in the Illawarra Mercury, Sat. 30th Jan 1897. "On the 23inst. another well known and highly respected resident, Mr E Dawes Sen. passed away at the ripe old age of 82. Mr Dawes arrived in this colony by the same ship as the late Mrs Pearson, accompanied by his wife, one of the well known Hukins family, of Jamberoo. Shortly after his arrival he settled on the Marshall Mount estate, where he resided until his death, enjoying through a long life the unbroken respect of all who came into contact with him, being noted for his strict integrity in all his dealings, remarkable industry and perseverance, a kindly and obliging disposition, and a worthy example as a husband and father. He leaves a widow of advanced years, 8 sons and 2 daughters. His remains were followed to the Wesleyan cemetery, Marshall Mount, by a large concourse of mourners, The Rev. J. S. Austin officiating."

Found in the book "The History of Illawarra" P165 (Mitchell Library) refers to prizes won at the Illawarra A & H Society Show in 1860 horse stock division...
"Best draught two-year-old filly, Mr Edward Dawes 1st prize."
