George Gregory
General Notes: Family documents state that George arrived in Australia c1845 aboard the ship "Golden Spring", however the only Gregory that sailed aboard this ship was in 1852 and 1853 from Melbourne. There were thirteen passengers aboard the Golden Spring when it arrived in Sydney from London in 1846, but none of them with the name Gregory. The next time it landed in Sydney was in 1851, coming from Singapore. NSW State Archives then list it sailing between Melbourne and Sydney from 1852 until 1855 and this is where the only 2 records for a Mr G. Gregory and a Mr Gregory are listed. George married Frances Elizabeth Cohen, daughter of John Godfrey Cohen and Mary Bradford, on 17 Jun 1858 in St Marys, Balmain, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Frances Elizabeth Cohen was born on 31 May 1840 in Sydney, NSW Australia, christened on 23 Jul 1840 in St James Anglican Church, Macquarie St, Sydney, NSW Australia and died on 7 May 1930 in South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria Australia.) |
