Mary Hooper Moon
- Born: 28 Sep 1835, Lewes, East Sussex England
- Marriage (1): James Robinson on 2 Jul 1861 in St Nicholas, Brighton, East Sussex England
Research Notes:
source: & Patricia Lovell who notes: I am not connected with the Robinson family in any way at all.
I became interested in them when I began to research James Robinson's sister Sarah.
She began a Soldiers' Institute in Portsmouth and was a fascinating lady.
I began to try to find out information about her ancestors and siblings to round off my story.
This website contains an excellent and concise version of her life.

Bits of it were probably initially brought to the attention of the author by e-mails from me, but I am just happy that her life has been recognised! Sue Morgan is the author of the entry for Sarah Robinson in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
I am now in process of putting my research in order so that it can be given to a University here in the UK and I am trying to tie up loose ends - such as the definitive source of the birth of Mary Hooper Moon, and if possible, when she died.
I have the details of the cremation and burial of James - he is with his sister who died later. There is a note on the records of Brookwood Cemetery in Woking, Surrey, to say that the grave is 'near 153284 "Moon" '. I am wondering whether this is the Moon family grave? Mary may have been buried with her parents, but under the name of Robinson, not Moon!
Mary Robinson (nee MOON) is in the 1871 census but not the 1881 one where James is shown as a Widower.
A search of FreeBMD gives several Mary Robinsons, but this is my favourite, in the Mar qtr 1877 at Croydon 2a 128, giving an age of 40, making a year of birth of 1837.
Any searchable sources that you can give me would be very useful. The Jireh Chapel records are at the National Archives and not available on line, so I have got the Robinson ones from there but did not realise I could get Mary Hooper Moon's until your information turned up.
Noted events in her life were:
• Baptism, 22 Apr 1836, Jireh Chapel, Lewes.
• connection.
Mary married James Robinson on 2 Jul 1861 in St Nicholas, Brighton, East Sussex England. (James Robinson was born in 1837.)
