Extract from Manorial records of Laughton dated 6 November 1797: "Conditional surrender by JOHN SHOOSMITH of Laughton of ALL that customary messuage, barn, mill, house and horse mill, 2 orchards and 7 pieces of land belonging containing 12 ac. 1/2 r in Laughton late of Edw. Shoosmith his father and before Pickerings called Densets Rangers and Bests, adjoining the highway, N. being two tenaments, rent together 1s. 6d. To the use of THOMAS NORTH SHOOSMITH of Laughton, yeoman, for securing (pounds sterling) 60."

BURIAL: Laughton parish register. Age given as 83.

MI: His tomb stands adjacent to Laughton Parish Church and the inscription was legible in 1999.
