Kay Adams notes: Both George and Ann were living in Rocky River, via Uralla at the time of their marriage. Witnesses to the marriage were James Tysoe and G Sanlor of Armidale. George was a carpenter. His religion was Protestant and he could both read and write. George arrived in Sydney, Australia on 11.02.1844 on the barque "Neptune" after leaving Cork 26.10.1843, age 20. Shipping records give his native place as Surrey. He was a carpenter. Cost of his voyage was 18 pounds 14 shillings. May have been born at Dulwich, Surrey, Devon or Dorset (all of these places are mentioned on various family death details). The barque Neptune was built in 1814 in Calcutta, India and weighed 643 and 76/94th tons. It sailed from Deptford, England via Cork, Ireland on Thursday, 26.10.1843 and arrived in Sydney on 11.02.1844 under the master William James Ferris. The ship was carrying 308 Bounty Emigrants; ten people died during the voyage and the ship was placed in quarantine for three days on arrival in Sydney due to smallpox. Ten people died during the voyage, including three infants and two small children.
George may have worked on the docks on Sydney Harbour which were being constructed around the time he arrived in Australia. Being a carpenter, his skills would have been in demand. George lived in Rocky River in the 1850's, had a store in Rocky River and was a storekeeper at Gostwyck. Both George and Anne were living in Rocky River in 1854 when they were married. George's religion was Protestant and he could read and write upon arrival in Australia.
