General Notes: The photograph of Bert is supplied by Paul Mann. Bert's birth name was registered as Albert Andrew Mann. Bert was born on 7 May 1880 on the Melbourne Claim near Stanthorpe. For most of his life he was known as Bert (Albert ). The Albert listed on his younger brother’s and sister’s Birth Certificates is actually Alexander. He was enrolled in school as Albert Mann. His eldest son was named Albert Andrew after him. He was a witness at his brother James’ wedding where he was listed as Albert Andrew Mann. Bert had seven sons, all of whom served Australiain wartime, six in World War II and one in the Korean war. Two sons were killed (Ken and Walter) and Ben was wounded in action. Another sonwas recommended for a medal and was promoted in the field. Bert died on 2 December 1949 in the General Hospital at Stanthorpe. He died frombronchogenic carcinoma and was buried in the Stanthorpe Cemetery (Plot 1.M.12 2680-159B (supplied by Paul Mann). Noted events in his life were: • Alternate Name: Bert, Albert Andrew Mann. Alexander married Charlotte May Burrows, daughter of Frederick A. Burrows and Elizabeth B. Osborne, on 26 Mar 1906 in Glen Aplin, Queensland Australia. (Charlotte May Burrows was born on 7 Jun 1887 in Forbes, NSW Australia and died on 7 Aug 1979 in Stanthorpe, Queensland Australia.) |
