My great grandfather was Thomas Mason who was the bushranger apprentice with Thunderbolt. He and his 2 brothers, William and George were placed in the male Protestant Orphanage School in Sydney in 1858, a short time after their father died. Their mother obviously couldn't afford to keep them - she went on to become a local prostitute I believe. Anyway, the boys remained in the orphanage until they each turned 13 when they were then apprenticed out.

George married Louisa Chaseling, daughter of Thomas Chaseling and Margaret McMahon, in 1826 in Sackville Reach, Windsor, NSW Australia. (Louisa Chaseling was born on 17 Jul 1809 in Windsor, NSW Australia and died on 6 Jul 1892.)
