The eldest son of John Burrell, James, having married young, left home and had various labouring jobs at Penrith and across the mountains and further west to Wellington. The other boys, Joseph and William Thomas stayed on the farm with their wives and families. James died in 1858 and in about 1870 his widow Emma moved to Wellington settling on the land with several children from her previous marriage to Rossiter and 6 Burrell children. There is no record of her remarrying.
St.Peters Richmond - 1791-1855: James occupation is listed as Labourer at Agnes Banks / Nepean.
From LJ.Burrell: When James was 18 he married Emma Rossiter, a 29 yr old widower with 5 children. James and Emma moved west across the mountains, living at various places such as Wellington and returning back to Richmond and Penrith where 2 children were born. It is said that James and his brothers all 'liked the bottle' so perhaps it is fitting that he died in a pub, the Rose Inn, at Hartley, although it is most likely that he was ill and was taken there for treatment. James died at the age of 33 leaving 6 young Burrell children. He is buried at Richmond with his sister Sarah. Apparently, his widow returned to Wellington around 1870 and there the eldest son Thomas married Annie Stinson in 1876.
Marriage Cartificate: James signed with his mark X. Witnesses - William Gibbons & Elizabeth Wallace both of Agnes Banks. Death Certificate: Certified by Edward Rossiter. Buried with his sister Sarah. Caroline.
