Victorian birth certificate 14744/1857 for Jessie Dickson born 27 August 1857, Ballarat gives John's age as 27 and occupation as miner; his birthplace is Edinburgh Scotland. Martha's age is 27, birthplace Clackmannon Scotland. Mrs Dickson (mother-in-law) was the nurse who attended the birth. Information supplied by Martha Dickson; birth registered on 17 November 1857.
Jessie Dickson O'Brien died on 24th November 1933 of cardiac failure(3 days), carcinoma ventriculi (6 months) at 11 Inkerman St, St Kilda; she was 75 years old. She was buried at Cheltenham cemetery on 25th November 1933.

Victorian marriage certificate 2829/1877 Jessie Dickson married John O'Brien at Wesleyan Parsonage, Lydiard Street, Ballarat on 20th July 1877. John was born in Tasmania, aged 21, a labourer. He was living and working in Sebastopol. His parents James O'Brien (labourer) and Catherine Jackson. John signed his marriage certificate with an X. Jessie's place of birth is given as Scotchman's, Victoria but I have not found anything near Ballarat by this name. Jessie's residence is White Horse Ranges, Ballarat. Jessie signed her own name. Witnesses were James Kingdom and Jane Kingdom.
