Research Notes:
source: Alex & Robyn Leeflang who writes: After the death of my greatgrandfather, Aunt Annie took over the running of the Commercial Hotel. I have the feeling that she was a pretty smart businesswoman. Her husband was the Postmaster at a place near ooma -can't remember the name. The marriage did not last, that I do know. Apparently, she was the first person to install a shower system in the hotel. We have been back to Barraba on a number of occasions. I was able to see inside the old house where my father grew up - my grandfather had fruit trees, mostly apple, and he was taught to graft by his father-in-law, Richard Rumsby. I think some of the trees are still there. My mother's parents also lived in Barraba and I remember staying in their house, or visiting. I was about 7 or 8 then. She was a no-nonsense woman - she used to cook for the hotel and made wonderful Christmas cakes, so I believe. I found where the house stood - sadly, it is no longer there, just an expanse of green with trees. It burned down. I must confess to feeling very sad, standing there.
