Name James jnr is the son of James snr and betty. James jnr was born in England in 1788 and came to Australia with is parents on the 'Buffalo' when he was 10 years old.
He married Esther short at St Phillips on the 18/4/1814. On 31/8/1835 James jnr and his wife were granted 30 acres of land at Castle Hill.
James and his family lived in the Menangle/Appin area on 2seperate occasions. The first time covered a time span of 10 years between 1820 & 1830 during that time he had been granted 80 acres at Menangle (Upper Minto) where he cultivated wheat as a tender for sale of wheat to the Government.
In 1830 a tragedy occured which caused the family to return to Sydney where he became the licencee of the 'Square and Compass', George Street; Sydney (? hotel) between 1/7/1830 & 6/7/1836.
The tragedy was this in 1829 when a man named John Holmes burnt down a barn belonging to the Beans and convicted of Arsonat Campbelltown. It is then stated that the public executioner carried out his sentance of death by hanging at the beans farm on the 21/8/1829. A full account of this incident can be found in the Sydney Gazette.
In 1837 the Bean family returned to appin. James then took up the licencee of 'The Union Hotel'between the years 5/7/1837 & 20/5/1840. After his wifes death in 1841 the family moved to the Gunning District.

James married Esther Short, daughter of Patrick Short and Maria Sarah Kelly, on 18 Apr 1814 in St Phillips, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Esther Short was born on 26 Apr 1797 in Appin, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia, died on 23 Feb 1841 in Appin, NSW Australia and was buried in St Peters C of E, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
