When Reuben Dawson married Mary Ann Selmes, in 1863, at Armidale, New South Wales, in Australia they had in their union two sets of twins born to them. His one daughter's marriage certificate indicates on that when she is married in 1901 that her father, Rueben, is a laborer and shepherded.

(Mary Ann Selmes was born in 1848 in Patricks Plains, near Singleton, NSW Australia, died on 5 Dec 1933 in Grey St, Glen Innes, NSW Australia ⁵³¹ and was buried in Armidale cemetery, NSW Australia Methodist section.)
