General Notes:
Richard came out on the Mangles (2), arriving on the 8-11-1822, he was 44 years old and came from Clonmell, Tipperary, Ireland. He got life for stealing ahorse and his ticket of leave in 1834.In the 1828 census he was a shepherd for Mr WilliamBowman of Bathurst On the same ship as Richard was his brother-in-law Michael Fogarty who went to the Maitland area. Richard died in the area that his daughter Catherine was living.
Zoe Cochrane notes: I can see why the Hennessy side of the family all ended up coming over as convicts to Australia. Things were in a shocking state in Ireland, there was no work, there was famine and farmers were being charged outrageous rents. I think a lot of people who came to Australia as convicts could see their lives would be better here and after 7 years they would get their ticket of leave. From what I can gather, Mary Fogarty the mother must have died, and when Richard Hennessy was deported to Australia in 1822 the children were left to their own devices and had to fend for themselves, so they were obviously very resilient to have withstood what happened to them
